Copper is a soft and malleable metal, red or yellow, frequently used in the Egyptian and oriental handicraft. At MAISON D'ORIENT's, we offer you many decorative objects made of copper, such as lamps, plates, jewels, mirrors, etc. All our products are coming from various regions of Egypt, among them Louxor and Cairo.
Our craftsmen still work on the copper manually; they are at the same time engravers, chisellers and above all artists... Some of them offer you very original creations using associations of copper and other metals such as iron, tin or brass.
The lamps...
The yellow or red copper and its derivatives are used in the making of these nice and oriental shaped lamps. We offer you various types and designs of lamps, some are decorated with multicoloured glass pearls or jewels, some other are engraved with oriental designs. You can hang them or put them on a table, they will diffuse a very soft and filtered light.
The jewels...
The copper and its derivatives are also used in the conception of these fancy jewels: pendants, earrings, bracelets wearing various designs, such as fishes, birds, geometrical or ethnic patterns, etc. They are associated with wooden, plastic or ceramic pearls. All our jewels are hand moulded, engraved and assembled.
The frames, candlesticks, incences...
Here the copper is used in association with other metals such as iron, tin or brass. A thin layer of silvered metal is put on some objects to highlight their engraved designs. The result is original, the style is modern and ethnic at the same time.
The decorated plates...
This is the typical copper object in Egypt! You can find them in every size, from the miniature plate to the large tray. In Egypt, the largest one is traditionally used as a table once put on its wooden feet. Their making demands a long and hard work: the plates are shaped then hand engraved by the copper craftsmen.
The small mirrors...
These lovely decorative objects, shaped with typically oriental designs, are hand drown and engraved. They are made with an alliage of copper and other metals, which give them this old and "patina" final aspect. Different sizes are offered at MAISON D'ORIENT's, the smallest one is measuring only 5cm!
